Zoe Wees (pronounced /ˈzoʊi wiːs/ in English and German; born 13 May 2002) is a rising pop artist from Germany. She made an international impact with her debut single "Control," which topped the SNEP Radio chart in France and reached the top ten in Belgium, among other countries.

Early Life and Background

Raised in Hamburg, Zoe Wees battled benign rolandic epilepsy (BRE) throughout her childhood. The neurological condition not only affected her physically but also emotionally, leaving her feeling isolated and powerless. Reflecting on her journey, Wees said, “The illness was stronger than me. It left scars that are now part of my identity. Learning to accept them took time, but they’ve shaped me into the fighter I am today.”

Wees' powerful voice, described as emotionally raw and capable of soaring from gritty lows to stunning highs, is a defining feature of her music. She is also a skilled instrumentalist, often seen accompanying herself on piano or guitar.

She attended the Grund- und Stadtteilschule Alter Teichweg in Dulsberg, where early encouragement from a schoolteacher helped ignite her passion for music.

Career

Zoe began writing English-language songs as a child. Her breakthrough started in her teenage years when a teacher, impressed by her performance at a school concert, offered to help develop her talent. In 2017, she appeared on the fifth season of The Voice Kids Germany, joining Team Sasha. Although she was eliminated during the Sing-Offs, the experience paved the way for her future career.

Her debut single, "Control," was released on 13 March 2020. The emotional track, inspired by her experience with epilepsy and the lack of control it caused, became a global success. Zoe has said the song was also a heartfelt tribute to the primary school teacher who believed in her when she was young.

Following this, she released "Ghost" on 19 April 2021, ahead of her debut EP Golden Wings, which dropped on 21 May 2021 via Capitol Records. “Ghost” explores vulnerability in relationships—opening up to someone who could easily break you. Co-written with Ricardo Muñoz Repko, VVAVES, Nicolas Rebscher, and Patrick Salmy, the song further showcased her emotional depth and songwriting skill.

After a period of musical silence, Zoe returned in January 2025 with "Traitor," marking her first solo release in nearly two years.
